THE GREATESTThe Greatest
A young boy stands in his room Shuffling his feet Hands raised in victory His voice raises shouts which ring, I am the Greatest! He had never been great before Until he watched his hero Whose golden brown skin shined like his Whose coarse black hair stood strong like his A hero who conquered beasts and stood over them as if to say I will never be defeated. A hero which stood for justice, Who taught the little boy to never back down Because you are black and you are proud And you are great. No, you are the Greatest No longer a little boy I am a man now, No longer a hero, our Ali is an Angel But the Greatest lives on in all of us So I salute him, not by gesture But by living as he would have wanted us all too; By loving our floating beauty which is like the butterfly’s And stinging those who do stand in our way like the Bee. Because I am the Greatest. I will never be defeated. R.I.P. to the Greatest.
